Irina Markina-Baum

French and Italian


Irina is a PhD candidate in the French Department. She discovered her passion for teaching when she led an ESL course for adults in Philadelphia. After receiving her B.A. in Romance Languages from the University of Pennsylvania, Irina spent seven months in France, where she taught English in three elementary schools and gave private lessons to students of varying ages. At Princeton, she has taught FRE 101 FRE 103. She is fascinated by the relationship between text and image and is developing ways of using paintings, advertisements and comic strips in the language classroom.
