Special Call for Proposals - 250th Fund for Innovation in Undergraduate Education

Tuesday, Jun 23, 2020

The Office of the Dean of the College is pleased to announce a special call for proposals for the 250th Fund for Innovation in Undergraduate Education, the University’s principal resource for supporting curricular innovation.

For this rapid cycle of funding, and with the generous support of the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity and the Office of Information Technology, we will accept proposals from faculty to accomplish one (or more) of the following:

  1. Design or significantly redesign a fall semester course for an online environment
  2. Design a “Princeton Challenge”: a credit-bearing, research-intensive, project-focused experience focused on COVID-19 or other community problems, to offer in fall 2020
  3. Design a fall semester course that addresses systemic racism, racial injustice, anti-racism, and/or the history of civil rights or anti-racist movements

We invite faculty to consult the newly published course design templates for online instruction as you prepare your proposal. The proposal should describe:

  1. The faculty member’s plan to design or redesign a fall course (400 words max.)
  2. An endorsement from the faculty member’s chair (please attach to proposal)
  3. The faculty member’s funding request, which may only include these items at the following fixed amounts:
  1. A summer stipend ($6,250)
  2. Undergraduate research assistance ($1,600)
  3. Purchase of special equipment or hardware ($1,000)

Please note that this special call will not support other expenses, including additional AI hours.

All completed proposals should be submitted by email to Stephanie Brown in the Office of the Dean of the College by July 13, 2020. While all faculty members are eligible to apply, proposals from tenure-track and tenured faculty will be given priority in the selection process.

The 250th Anniversary Fund review committee consists of the dean and deputy dean of the college; the dean and senior associate dean of the faculty; the directors of the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning and the Writing Program, and, for this special call, the Vice President for Information Technology and the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity. A small faculty committee will review all applications for new curricular offerings before the final selection. Awards will be announced on a rolling basis beginning July 20, 2020.
