Using Kaltura to Manage Videos

Kaltura is a video management tool that allows you to upload videos to your course site and share them with your students. Kaltura is available in Canvas and Blackboard.

How to upload a video to Kaltura: Follow the instructions on uploading a lecture recording to Blackboard via Kaltura (Part Three of the article ) or uploading a lecture recording to Canvas via Kaltura (Part Two of the article). 

How to use Kaltura to record and share videos: You can record the video either with your camera’s video feed or via Zoom, store the file on your computer’s hard drive, and upload it to your course website through Kaltura.

  1. Record your lecture via Zoom: You may use Zoom as a recording tool, save the file to your computer’s hard drive, and then upload it to your course site via Kaltura. Here is how:

  2. Record your lecture via your camera’s video feed (macOS): Open the QuickTime Player application and select File > New Movie Recording. Click the dropdown arrow next to the red Record button and verify the correct camera and microphone inputs are selected. Click the Record button to begin, and the Stop button at the same location to end the recording. Select File > Save and choose a location to save your file.   3. Record your lecture via your camera’s video feed (Windows): At the bottom-right of the Windows taskbar, right-click the Volume icon and select Open Sound settings, choosing your desired microphone input. Open the Camera application and click the Video button on the right side of the application’s window, located directly above the large Photo button. Press the Video button once more to begin recording, and the red Stop button to end recording. Recordings are saved to your Pictures > Camera Roll folder.
