Each fall the McGraw Center hosts an orientation for new assistant professors. The day offers new faculty an opportunity to meet other junior faculty and learn from experienced colleagues and administrators about a broad range of resources to support their teaching, scholarship, and research. The conversation offers an introduction to who’s who in the Office of the Dean of the College and the Office of the Dean of the Faculty; advice on securing grant and fellowship support and on getting published; acclimating to the culture of your department and the institution; and resources for supporting excellence in teaching on campus, including the McGraw Center and the Council on Science and Technology. A cocktail reception with President Christopher Eisgruber marks the close to the day. New faculty who have participated in the past tell us how much they appreciate this chance to find out more about the workings of the University and meet colleagues from across the disciplines and campus offices.
We offer a workshop for new faculty on course design for Princeton courses three weeks after the Orientation.
